Medical Information

We provide medical assistance to ensure participants safety and well being during the competition. Long distance athletes encounter specific medical problems and they should be prepared. Appropriate training and preventive measures are essential factors to ensure a safe competition.

1) DEHYDRATATION: Athletes should have an appropriate intake of beverages and fluids (both before, during and after the competition).

2) HYPERTERMIA: Temperature can rise and it may be considerably humid. We recommend wearing light clothes and keep hydrated to avoid hypertermia.

3) HIPONATREMIA: "Low concentration of sodium in he blood", when you sweat, you loose water and salt so, even if you drink sports drinks during the race it is very likely that you will sweat out more salt than you can replace. You will need to replace salt
specifically. This can be accomplished by eating salty foods.

4) SALT SOLUTIONS AND INTRAVENOUS FLUIDS: Some times after crossing finish line competitors require salt solutions or other intravenous fluid.

5) FAMILY OR FRIENDS ARE NOT ALLOWED INTO MEDICAL AREA.

CANCUN IRONMAN 70.3 FIRST PRIORITY IS THE SECURITY AND WELL BEING OF PARTICIPANTS. THUS WE ENCOURAGE ALL ATHLETES TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND USE AID STATIONS REGULARLY.
